Do Dollars Kill?

Hi

have a noticed my guppy baby about the size of a tetra has vanished from my tank.


could my dollar have killed it?? or eaten it??

please help

My dollar is about 4 inches long.... bloody shame, i also have another fish not sure what type but he also is about the same as a tetra.. im scared he might get eaten now?

there's always a chance of larger fish attacking and going as far as killing other fish.

depending on tank size i would take ur other little fish 2 the LFS and maybe get a couple more SD as they like having company as they are shouling fish

My tank is a 54 litre... i know i only have 1 dollar and should have at least 4 but i only have the space for 1. I'm just really shocked and confused as to where my guppy went to. I found the name for my other little fish he is a Galaxy Rasbora. very nice fish...small but very pritty. im hoping my dollar leaves him well alone.
So do u think the dollar killed my guppy?

my other fish are..

1x Galaxy Rasbora
1x Red Tail Shark
8x Neon Tetras
1x Catfish
1x Killifish
1x Dwarf Frog
1x Silver Dollar
1x Sunset Platy
3x Guppies

IME no it probably wouldnt have killed it but thats going by my experiences with them ive never had any aggression or fatalities through my SD's well. as far as i know anyways but ive had other ppl say yes they have and will kill if given a chance .

every 1 has had different experiences with different fish so trying 2 pin piont is really hard.


are all ur water stats fine maybe check them first cause at least u will know then that it's not down 2 tank conditions

Thanks for all your help jen you been a star.. as for my tank condition i did a half water cahnge about 4 days ago and my ph reads at 7.5

is there anything else i need to check?

your tank is HEAVILY overstocked

u could really do with checking amonia , nitrite, nitrate levels these are the 1's that do harm 2 the fish

and yes as OS says u are overstocked for that size tank and ur filter/s may not be able 2 cope with it making ur water stats unhealthy for ur fish.

You will need to get rid of yout RTBS and silver doller as they willl outgrow your tank
galaxy rasbora like to be in groups, and depending on which type of catfish they may do also, you may also need to get another ADF
That would leave your tank still overstocked so I would have to think of giving some fish back to your lfs

Seriously though, I've never seen a silver dollar attack another fish - although I did once see some red-hook myleus chase a RTBS around a tank whenever he came out of his cave.

Hi all just to let you all know that i have just taken my silver dollar back to the pet shop after all your advice i thought it would be the best idea as he would of got to big

Trouble with big fish is at feeding times they will simply gobble up everything thats infront of them and if a small neon or similar happens to be going after the same piece of food then you'll find both the food and neon will be dined on, wheter the fish nows about it or not?
