hi i have been thinking of making myself a 6 x 2 x 2 aquarium out of plywood but when i price everything up it sounds like it would be cheaper to buy a glass aquarium, the wood i can get at a decent price and it's the same with the cinder blocks for the stand but the sealant is what makes it expensive,i have been thinking of an alternate for rubber paint or fiberglass and wanted to ask if you guys thought yacht varnish would work as it is desined to hold water out.thanks for any help

you talking about using wood as a tank or as a stand? wood as the tank itself wont the wood/treatment you put on the wood degrade over time where as glass wont? in my opinion may look nice but glass is just so much easier to use than wood for an aquarium, you would haft to make sure it is 110% waterproof other wise rot warping and leaks will appear over time, would be interesting to see this tho :D

not if its done properly.....lots of people build tanks out of plywood....just go to youtube and search for "plywood aquarium"

i'm only using wood because it's for a fish room and i want it to be the main display tank and it's in an alcove so you don't see the sides.
i had a look on you tube and i have my eye on one that i want to copy but as you said it's sealing it that's the problem could i use yacht varnish or are the chemicals UN-safe thanks for the help
