Okay I'm thinking about making a DIY stand, but I'm not sure I have everything I need, it's going to be a 3ft tank. Now what I'm thinking about doing is stacking 2 cinderblocks on top of each other and then a piece of plywood on top of them, then fabric to hide the cinderblocks and plywood. Is this all I need to do?

Levelling it might be difficult, but otherwise that would work. I'd actually make a box frame out of the timbers just to hold them together, but thats just my oppinion. I made a stand for my 3' 65g out of just 2x4s, works great

That's what I'm trying to figure out, I've seen 3 foot tanks that are anywhere from 30 to 90 gallons, and these are the common sizes. For a 30 gallon with a 3'x1' footprint, cinder block on the 4 corners with 1" plywood should suffice, I would build a frame with 2x4's like you did for a 65, and for a 90 gallon with a 3'x 1.5' footprint I would support the corners, as well as the center using 6 piers of blocks total, along with the 2x4 frame.

I have a 3.5ft tank and i made mine on 4 corners and one at the rear. i have puzzle jointed the top sections as they meet to give strength and then a sheet of MDF on the top to remove minor abnormalities. then top with polystyrene....

Then covered the out side as desired.

what i did is built a frame out of 2x4's that was slightly bigger than my tank base, screwed 4 legs into the corners and affixed another frame around the bottom for support. you could easily do the same thing and maybe add another set of legs in the middle.

The only problem with that, is the last time I tried building something I went to the ER  .

about $1.45 for the screws and $10.00 for a 12pack.
the lumber was all 'found' pieces of fence post and 2x4, but if you were to buy it, i'd say about $12.00 for a 2x4 and 6x6 fence post. I'm trying to find full pics of the stand but can't right now.

it's ok to laugh.
