How do you guy's who make your own slate caves cut the slate? I've tried with a tile cutter and failed miserably, then I've just tried hubby's angle grinder with a stone cutting disk, but doesn't seem very neat and seems to splinter quite a bit - surely there is a better way?

My 1st attempt (Silicone still wet)

use a powered water cooled tile cutter:

B&Q do a basic model for about 35 quid and a bigger one around 60/70 mark....

cheap one

dearer one

works a charm:)

Thanks for that, may well have to invest in one of those :)

The other thing was, what type of Slate is best? I recently got a LOAD from a reclamation yard and have been using them, are they OK?

As long as there are no metals etc in the slate it should be fine, just clean it first etc

Just been to my local B&Q and they are selling a tile cutter for £15
