DIY powered gravel vacuum

Thats a pretty good idea.

The way I would do it though is get a 2nd cannister filter stuff it full of filter wool then attach your gravel vac to that cannister. It might cost a bit but I wouldn't be surprised if by switching your hoses aorund all the time your going to end up weakening parts and eventually breaking them off, or making the fittings lose risking your hose falling off.

With your cannister filter for the tank you don't really want all the biological media getting clogged up and having to rinse that constantly, won't do any good for your chemical levels.

Agreed. I would like to have a spare cannister just to do the vacuum :D Costly, but there will be plenty of power to suck up the debris :cool:
