Hey, I am going for a sump but am wondering how to I know what pump I would need to return the water if I made my own overflow box. Like how to I measure how fast its draining from the tank?

Also any links to step by step guides would be great lol

If I cant figure out how to do it, i will just buy one but would like to try and DIY it.

Try looking at Melevsreef.com. Its go information on sump design, overflow boxes, pumps etc. If you are going to make your own, make it to the dimensions of a known manufacturer, then you'll know what its rated too.

if you are planning to buy an overflow box, it should have a gph rating on the package.
if you are building one, it depends on the size of the PVC you are using for the plumbing. the ID of the PVC will determine the max vertical flow rate.
