Just added the end of the frames and siliconed it all up,

Those drivers look to be dc input, unless I'm missreading, how are you powering the drivers?

Giving me ideas for building myown.

Do you plan to seal the mdf with pva to stop it absorbing moisture? I remember trying to paint mdf and it soaking up several coats of paint!

They're AC input, live going to the + terminal and neutral to the Negative, or in some cases live to VCC and neutral to Ground.

I was considering using one of these

If I'm right in thinking this takes a single 240v feed and supplies 3 24v feeds ?

If I'm wrong I'll be using 3 of these

As for the mdf I'm spraying the underside black and then adding 4-5 layers of yacht varnish to waterproof it

The ebay add states:
"Input voltage: 9V to 35V"
" Step-down DC/DC"
&
"VIN Positive terminal for 9V-35V DC Power supply GND Power Ground LED+ Connect to the anode of LED"

Sorry, yes you're correct, just checked my PSU's and my transformer is an AC/DC and the driver is DC/DC.

First coat of primer today...... And I'm not happy. The primer has shown up alot of imperfections around the holes so I'm thinking about getting a new sheet of mdf and re doing it all

Get some silver washers the size of the holes to cover the edges? mdf is tough to cut perfectly like that. not sure i would be using mdf either, solid sheet of pine shelving might do better. mdf seems to rot while other woods might bow. :|

Hi Craig,

I've been watching this thread because I want to do similar builds. There does not seem to ever be much DIY assistance in this forum.

Are your drivers dimmable?
And what are you using as a heat sink?

Update when you get a chance because I want to build my LEDs right into my hood as well, but not sure if that's possible or if I even need optics so close to the water surface.

Hope your build is going well!

Evening steve, I don't think the drivers I have are dimable but I will have to confirm, as for heat sinks I've ordered these http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=390406525062

Mines slowed down a little I wasn't happy with the holes I had drilled so I have got to re cut the mdf and re drill with an auger bit instead of a hole saw. I'm also waiting on my 3rd driver and power supplies to arrive

If you are redoing the top then a tip for neater holes is to drill them from the other side.

Mark it up as you did last time (on the back) then drill a small pilot hole from the back to mark where to drill. Then flip it over and drill the holes to the correct size from the front - then that way any tear out will be hidden on the inside of your hood.
