i see. now i think i understand. i was trying to figure out how the lift tube worked. i never though an air pump would be able to create that much lift against the pressure of pushing the water out and over the tank. pretty interesting

The lift tube on one of those only lifted the water about 1 1/2 inches. That slight height difference of 1 1/2 inches of water was all that moved the filtered water through the filter at all. The flows were very slow by today's standards.
