Diy External Filter (Update 21/9)

Ok so another set back today :-( the silicone just won't give a good enough seal so I've been back to wickes and got two 15mm tank connectors which are used for cold water storage tanks but are the same as bulkhead fittings so no silicone required :) I'll update tomorrow on water tightness

Can you post a photo of these new connectors so I can see? I found the containers at a local store so I'm thinking I might actually be able to build this ....

These things are good for DIY filters. Very cheap.

They're 10" water filter housings. You can silicone a length of pvc pipe down the middle to make the water go to the bottom of the filter and then pass up through what ever media you are using.

They take standard hose barbs and you can chain them together with different filter media in diferent housings.

Then either run them with an external pump or a submersible in the main tank.

glad everything is water tight :good: its taking shape :)

Slowly but surely I have 4 days off now so hopefully all be done by the weekend

cool i have held off mine, lost the bottle waiting on yours then might have to steal the design to use on my little 10gal tank :good: top work :D top kudos to you.

Lol fair enough what I would say is with these new fittings will need 19mm hole and tightening using mole grips/ adjustable spanner to get a good seal

lol the last thing i want is to make one and then for it to leak all over, the misses would love something to moan about haha, so you got more balls then me or a very understanding partner :),

So you think the new connectors are a lot better then?
