DIY biowheel filter

BTW, what type of filter do you have?
It's a penguin 125. I have a penguin 170 on my big tank and really like it so far so I thought I'd go with another one.

I use synthetic pillow stuffing. It's wonderfully cheap - a lifetime supply costs you less than a single fish, works nicely for both mechanical and biological filtration and fits in any filter. I keep a few bags of activated carbon around for emergencies; I haven't used a single one since.

just a warning some synthetic pillow stuffing might contain fibers that get into the water and might injure the gills of your fish.. so before you go out and buy cheap synthetic pillow stuffing, make sure its safe..
