Hi guys
I did this the fastest and cheapest way I have ever found for a black background on the outside of a tank, just put some washing up liquid on the outside of the glass, stick a black plastic binbag onto it and trim the edges. It sounds cheap and nasty....its cheap but it does look great and mine has been on for 6 months plus and its fine and does give the effect of depth and shows the plants and colours of the fish up great.
Try it and if you dont like it, bin it, it only costs pennies to do and you can always put it in the binbag!!
Ron.

thats a great idea, never thought of that. I think I'll give it a try :)

Yeah, I tried the garbage bag methods, and if it weren't for the darned folds, it would work really well. Too bad the creases look uglier than sin. Latex painted mine instead.

with any outside background they start to look crap when you get water runs down the back just get your self a sheet of black perspex and slip it inside the tank it look much better and no water runs down the back

it may cost more but you only ever need to do it once

just a point i have two sheets of black suger/art paper behind mine becasue i cant find a plain black background the only two prints they had were ugly

mines a small systemised tank with an opening flap thingy at the front so the back never gets wet, unless i start poking at the filter part but sofar its been fine
