What are some ideas for dividing off a large betta-only tank? My tank is 2.5x1x1.2ft (LxWxD). Acrylic screens are really hard to find/expensive here... I bought some plastic canvas today but not sure how to secure it to the tank itself.

All ideas considered!!! I have three (soon to be 4) males and 4 females with one more in quarantine (only one girlie to be bred). Plan to have the alpha (breeder) male in the main section with the girlies (he doesn't really chase any one in particular, no bubble nesting, and I'm not planning on breeding yet).

So, main section:
  • King -- Breeder male (double tail)
  • Queen -- Breeder female (half-moon)
  • Eventually (after quarantine), 4 Ladies-In-Waiting :D
Three separate compartments for 3 veil-tail males
  • The Eunuch
  • The Joker
  • and the Gallant Knight!
Here's a diagram of what I'm envisioning:
(any other suggestions/comments, welcome!!  )

Gee I hate to do this... beg for an answer. OK I've used the Search feature to search the entire TFF for "partition"... no answers.

How do you guys separate your bettas?
PLEASE HELP... it's almost 5am and I'm not going to sleep til I work out a better way than little net breeders for the males; that's SO not fair!

I'd suggest using the silicone that they use to repair tanks with. Should be available in most every place they sell glass tanks. That should fix the canvas to the sides of the tank well enough. Cut to fit and glue together. I've never done it myself, though.

Have at look in Australian Betta Forums in the DIY Workshop. If you look back through the threads there's a heap of different ideas for dividing thanks.

I've used acrylic sheet and got a friend to cut it to size for me and drill holes for circulation. The divider sections slot together, so there's no need to fix them into the tank. I've also used plastic canvas and poster hanger strips in various ways, and cheap picture frames.

Here's a pic of a smaller tank divided in 3 with plastic canvas, and poster hanger strips siliconed in place to hold it. Let me know if you want more information :)

Thank you Kiarra... I'm just not sure if silicone alone would hold the plastic canvas in place.

VickiPS,
OMG thank you!!! for nthe picture too!!! and being an Aussie at the same time!!!

It's just really hard to find acrylic here....

I just have a few questions(with the plastic canvas idea)

** Can you scrape off the silicone later on to move things around without leaving any marks?

** Poster hanger strips.... ummmm not quite sure what that stuff is; any idea where to look? Spotlight?

** Where did you get acrylic sheeting, and how thick does it have to be? I'm not quite understanding the divider sections slotting together; any chance of a picture/diagram?

And, I'm going to go check out that Australian Betta Forums out after I get some sleep... Thank you, I'm so grateful. Now off to bed to think about all this stuff (I really hate having my boys in vases..)
