Hello, folks. There seem to be quite a few knowledgeable people prowling the pleco board, so I figured I would see if you could help me figure out what this pleco might be. It was sold as a 136b snowball pleco, but someone on another board said that it is not but was not able to provide me with an ID. I've searched around a bit and have found nothing. So, here are some pictures. Thanks in advance for any help!

well its a hypan going by head and mouth shape so first 1 that comes 2 mind is L201

haha it looks like my ugly bristle nosed pleco no offence
its quite a small little guy, in my opinion it is better to buy plecos when there older, its easier to identify them
i can see why it was sold as a snowball but i aint got a cluee

Thanks, I checked the 201 out again and the pics of those bear the most resemblance to my pleco. Mine is still small (about 2") so the distinguishing features may still be forthcoming.

Your BN might be ugly, but my little guy isn't ugly, lol.

As for buying him small, I wanted a fairly young pleco. I prefer to have young fish and raise them with their tankmates so that it reduces (I hope) the chance that bullying will occur when they are fully grown. Besides, while this guy is about 2" long now, all of the species that he may be grow only to about the 4-5" range.

post it at www.plecofanatics.com

it looks nothing like bristlenose matchstick

how much did you pay for him?? i just bought one of these 2 months ago but hes about 3 inches. the store had him for 2 years before i bought him and cost me 60 usd!! costly! hes not shy at all though and easily lets me pick him up to look at him

$30. I almost didn't do it, but knew that I would not find a better deal on "exotic" plecos in my area. In the end, I'm very happy that I dropped that cash for him. :hyper:

What do you mean "lets me pick him up to look at him"?
