Discuss Not Eating!?!?!?

It doesn't matter how big your shark currently is, you need to go by the ADULT size of the fish you put in a tank.

There is no hope for you. You couldn't perform the simple task of getting your water tested. You even went to your LFS and STILL didn't get your water tested. Instead you got another fish. The point of getting rid of the fish was not to get different fish. The point was to lighten the load in your aquarium.

Take the shark back and get a test kit. DO NOT GET ANOTHER FISH.

I have to agree with putting you in the category of "Too ignorant to learn"

You NEED to take our advice into practice or your fish will continue to have unhappy, short lives.

Okay, let me get this straight. You want help, but we give you the very best advise, and then you IGNORE it?

You want step by step, here ya go:

1. Get rid of all the fish except the Discus (s)
2. BUY AN API LIQUID MASTER FRESHWATER TEST KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do NOT get a test strip test, they are VERY inaccurate, your lfs will use them, and will give you bad advise on the water.
3. After you find out EXACTLY what your water parameters are, act accordingly to what may be wrong.
4. DONT PUT ANY MORE FISH IN THAT TANK!!!!!!!! Thats about i the advise i can give you.

I can only hope my 3 minutes posting this has not gone to waste.

Evidently your LFS staff don't know the requirements of Discus. Concientious retailers would not have allowed you to get Discus in the first place with your current stock... :/

The bala will get to 18 inches in captivity, but Chester Zoo apparently have some at 3ft length. He is not suitable, and needs to be removed.

Considering how little advise you have taken onboard here, I'd give your Discus about a month to two months to live at most  To be blunt, and to give you a quick current situation review from how I see things from my end, ATM, going by your current resposes so far, I can see you are likely going to fall into one of two categories; "too ignorant to learn" or "more money than sence". So far you have lunged into every purchase without doing any research and you have ignored the advise of members on here. Then, and only then, you wonder why things aren't working for you. Try a new approach to keeping fish, where you make no "spur of the moment" desisions in the LFS and you will get far further. :good:

Seriously bud, you need to research before buying. If you don't, you will loose fish. You're LFS has proven they cannot be trusted, so you need to take all their advice on the matter with a pinch of salt

This. All of this right here.

Your LFS has stung you more than once already, and yet you're still going there and taking impulse buys because they "said it'll be alright"? You're adding fish to a suspect tank, as you have at least one unaddressed problem and are adding potential new problems with new fish. You have, what's the count now, 4 discus? That's around $180 at the prices in my area. Nothing to play around with, even if you can't consider that these are living animals.

alright man, ill take this on board. =]

thank you :)

ive just read through this and am totally shocked. why are people still posting advise evidently this person lacks the ability to follow it. i'l try one last time ....

Test your water

tomorrow i am testing my water i didn't have time today because of work and all :S

This is understandable. However, what about the twelve days since you started this thread? You've had time to do a great deal that was advised against.

yeah ino... but tomorrow im defently going to the lfs and getting water tested =]

for sure...
i will post up the results on this thread here OK.
also do you know about the new chemical i bought today...
the 6.5 pH thingy.

if not let me know ill give you more information about it...

thank you :)

Uhhhh, i wouldnt use that. Liquid Ph adjusters are bad news. I put the correct dose in my tank, and it took it from 8.4-8.6, to 7.0 in a hour, and then it went right back up. It dosent sound bad, but it is. It shocks your fish. My tank got ich and several fish died from it. If i remeber right, as a example, if your ph is 8.1, and you take it down to 8.0, there is a change of 100 or something. Which is why its not a good idea to change the ph like that. I have been trying to change mine for the past 2 -3 years, and havent found a good way to do it.My Kh and Gh are to high, preventing me from changeing the ph.

I have the same issue - I'm about to start to introduce small amounts of RO Water to lower the KH & GH, and therefore the pH.

See my link in sig for updates.

Tank bred discus are unhappy if the pH drops below 7.0 for a long while IME. Petertr, leave the pH well alone unless your fish are strugling. If it ain't broke, don't fix it :good:

Kribensis has said why most are againt pH changing products. If you lower the pH without lowering the hardness, the pH will "bounce" caursing issues with pH shock and stress on your fish :/ Water softening is only for people that know their water chemistory. Considering OP that you don't have your own test kit, I deffinately would not advise this for you. Please rule out a potential issue now, buy NOT using the 6.5pH liquid adjuster :good:
