Discuss Not Eating!?!?!?

Stress is caursing the fish to not eat. Angelmouse gave a VERY short list of issues caursing this stress. Look at her list and remady EVERY issuse she highlights. Untill the issues are fixed, the discus will continue to refuse to eat. Stocking though started on is still a MAJOR factor in the issue IMO.

A fish refusing to eat is down to one of two things. Disease or incorect living conditions. Disease would have spread to the other fish by now so you can rule that out. That means that the fishes issue is with the way you are running the tank. You need to go and put a serious ammont of research into these fish if you want to keep them, but idealy with that many isses to fix, you would follow my earlier advise and re-home them before they come to harm, before trying again later with a new tank set-up that was designed with them in mind :good: Keep going as you are and you will loose them all

These fish are considered "advanced" level for keeping for a reason. They are not hard to keep, and usualy the people that struggle with them and call them hard to keep were just too ignorant to get off their backsides and research the species before purchase and then wind up blameing the fish for their errors in keeping. Don't become "one of them" :/

OK guys what should i do...
can someone please tell me step by step what i should do.. :)

thank you

OK, how much roughly you think a test kit would cost?
and what do i say to my lfs... can i please get a test kit... and if they ask what kind :S... or is there a certain brand... what do i do :S

API Freshwater Master kit runs about $30 in the US, and is one of the most widely used and recommended on the forum. Other brands are similarly priced, you just want to make sure it has ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate tests. Most include pH as well, some include hardness and alkalinity tests, which are less critical but also good to know sometimes.

There are strip tests, which aren't as reliable or accurate, but the major thing is, they're a "cheap trap." You can get a full set of tests for about $15, but that only gets you 25 rounds of testing. A liquid kit costs twice as much, but gives you well over a hundred tests.

u might think im stuped here but ive had the same problem , about 4 months back and mine is still alive i think my discus has gone blind lol he will not eat unless i feed him i put beefheat next to his face and he will snap at it like he dont know where it is and he just chills on the bog wood all day because when he swims he just bumps in to things

just try it lol

Wow lol, ill buy the test kit soon, ill go to my local fish shop tomorrow and ask them to do a full test on my sample water i bring into them...
ill post the details back up on here.. and see what you guys have to say.

I don't think my discuss is blind.. ill also grab two servings of blood worms to..

see if he likes em..

cheers guys thanks for the help :)

Discus like to be kings of their castle, Any aggressive, fast moving or large fish can distress them as they are peaceful slow moving fish.
1. Tiger barbs with Discus are a deffinate no, as they are active fast fin nippers and would intimidate the discus, shouldn't be together
2. severums though peaceful are not recommended tankmates and their size will eventually intimidate Discus in your size tank
3. Angels can be bullys especially at feeding time, i have one that is fine with my Discus but had to move other angels out for being bullys so could be a problem if any are aggressive, and too many in there for your size tank.
Also all these fish except Angels require lower temps than Discus
in a 52 gal it is only just big enough for the discus a shoal of small tetras and the BN.
Your water needs to be checked and stocking needs to be sorted otherwise you could lose your Discus, sounds like he's stressed and meds won't help stress.
hope this helps
regards Angel

Angel covered stocking issues there, so a brief list of what fish to remove is included. :good: She also highlights the point that water quality needs checking. To keep the discus, you realy need to take most of your fish with you when you go to the LFS, or you need to bring back a new tank also

When you get the water tested, get ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH done. When you post the results, please post the current temperature in the tank also :good:

Research is the medication you need. Though we can help with issues here "as and when" it would be better to not hit the issues in the first place, by simply knowing what will caurse problems. We cannot tell you everything about how to set-up a tank over a furum, as thee simply is so much to cover that we will miss or overlook something  When ever you hit an issue you could potentialy loose a/some fish, so please research sufficiently to avoid issues in the first place. This took me about 4 months leg work, reading info for arround 1 hour a night. That is the kind of grounding on Discus care you realy need to be a successful discus keeper IMO :good: As an above poster put it, get lazy, loose fish. :/

All the best

well... that's pretty much what I was going to post so....

it is unlikely that the fish will recover if these issues are not addressed, if you want to keep discus then everything has to be geared towards their needs, nothing else.

temp up to 30c may help too, & unless you are heavily overfiltered, your tank is far too small for your current stock

MAN dammit!!!!!
my white discuss aint eating now either!! ...
grr i gotta do something help me help me :(!

what shud i do...

OK, what i have just done now is i have bumped the temp up to 30...
i removed the sev at least a week ago now...
tomorrow i am adding in a big large wood ornament its nice.. it has been soaking in the bath tub for about 3 days now... should i maybe add the wood another day because of stress... before i add the wood i will be doing about a 50% water change then to, so fresh water might also help with a few chemicals such as (api stress coat)

then after i do the water change i will go to lfs and buy live blood worms... and also get a water test...

see how things go any other solutions as to help my discuss please post urgent help needed ... :(

thanks...
