Iv'e wanted to keep discus for quite a while now, but i saw one price in a fish store and it was 80 quid! Is this a normal price or is that store just ripping people off?

It depends on the size, strain and condition of the fish. Its not uncommon for a breeding pair of Discus to sell for €450 here in Ireland. With Discus, it really is true that you get what you pay for, getting good fish from someone who knows Discus could mean the difference in whether you have a succesful enjoyable experience or a frustrating and disapointing one.

Thats what you pay extra for. Do a lot of homework and shop around, ask questions that you already know the answer to and chose your supplier as carefully as the fish.

Just like Ken (i mean Cian ) said, the price of discus can be quite high! It depends of the strain and size and condition. Over here in Aus. small discus, in good condition, go for about $50 - $70 and i'v seen a breeding pair for $800!!!

I've seen nice 5" fish go for $100.00 at a fish store.

I got my fish from a breeder who sells his 5" fish for $30.00. He has larger ones around the 7 - 8" for $90.00.

I got my redturq and PB for $25 each when they were 2.5" from a breeder and I currently got another one from my lfs for $40 and he's about 3"... Discus are pretty pricy that's why a lot of people stay away from them

Yeah in Australia Discus are between $45-$75. For cheaper I would look in the newspaper because some people who sell them have the price lower. Always check the fish though to see if it is healthy!

I got 4 3" fish for £6 each. 2 brilliant turquoise and 2 red turquoise, he also had yellows and would have white and calicos soon (they were too little at the mo).

Wow that's cheap, BTW miss cheesy how much would that be converted to American or Canadian dollar???. Is this a local breeder near your area???

Well I found a good shop yesterday selling young Discus for 17.50 and adults for 27.50 and of very good quality.
