Still having problems with the Discus I purchased from The Discus Place. One has a patch of white fuzzy substance growing on the dorsal fin and another on its side. It is growing very fast. A smaller one now has it on the lower fin. I started treatment for fin rot but unable to find anything that looks like it in the books I have. Only two of the fish I ordered have it but all are still very stressed and I have had them over a week. I have now purchased a small tank to move them to. PH 6.8, Nitrite 0.0, Ammonia 0.0, Nitrates are a little over 0 but not enough to notice. All the original Discus in the tank are great. The tank is 150 gal. bow front. Live plants and driftwood. Everything is great except the fish I received from The Discus Place. I am treating with Melafix and Stress Coat. Again started treatment yesterday. Does any know if this is fin rot or what it is and also the best treatment for it. I have had saltwater and freshwater fish for years and have never seen this. I use a UV Sterlizer and have never had a problem. Please help!!

If it's a white fuzzy substance on the fins, it's probably fungus. 2 of my fish had white fuzzys on their fins. I ran a treatment and it went away.

Hope this helps!

I used these capsules called Fungus Cure. They come in a package of 8, and you have to use one for every five gallons. They work really and don't stain your plants.

Hope this helps! :D

Make sure your water is clean. I would use salt. 3 tblsp/10 gal water.

Thanks for everyone's help and with Formalin and Melafix the fungas is clear but still have several sick fish. This was a shippment of nine Discus from The Discus Place and they were shipped improperly. On bag had two 4" discus with very little water and air, another bag had one large Discus with very little water or air and both were laying flat as there was nothing to support the bags. Another bag had four Discus and another had two. Again very little air and water. All had scrapes and cuts from the overnight shipment and four of them have died. This was a very, very expensive learning experience for my son and I. I have never ordered from this guy before and will never order again. He refused to do anything about the problem and would not offer any help. Had his money and that was it. Again, thanks for everyone's help and advise.

Sorry to hear about your loses.
I would try to find a local breeder and go pick up your fish. You will also be able to see the tanks and fish before your purchase.
When I got my fish I made a 4 hour round trip drive to get my fish.

A buddy of mine talked to a breeder of discus and told him once he stocked his tank with them to put a dark sheet around his tank and leave it there for 3 days to lessen the stress on the fish.

I did this for the first few days but it was to treat Velvet. It came in with the Discus. Does anyone know of a Discus Breeder in Georgia? Would like to find a good breeder near me.
