Disaster

I'd say yes - they don't seem to have the same type of long claws of the big one, so I'd say they were safe.

Very wise precaution.

Amanos are very peaceful shrimp, I have two, and they'll go for wafer food, and will happily take the whole wafer, if the other inhabitants will let them. If there's anyone else interested in the wafer, they'll kinda skirt around the outside of the group, looking for an opportunity to pounce. Mine have lived in both my tanks, and back away from everything else I've got (or had previously).

I wouldn't be so quick to remove the betta, he may have been investigating the newcomers on his patch but it doesn't mean he will rip them apart. Now that he's been away from the main tank he may just accept them as part of the scenery now like he has with the other fish.

I'm just a bit concerned that he's going to eat them, they hadn't been in the tank for more than 30 seconds and he'd taken a chunk out of one of the corys' tails. At the moment they aren't much bigger than the molly fry I had not long ago, and the last I saw of them was the betta following them around...

Edit: ok I'll try a quick experiment, I'll release him and see what he does. If I take him to the lfs it needs to be soon, or I wont be able to go again until Saturday

it's always the initial introduction of any new fish that will spark any aggression in the tank. Best to keep an eye on it for a day or so. If it continues then you've got a problem, if it dies down then it was just the 'inquisitive' pahse as Soybean suggests.

The problem is that I'll be working twelve hour shifts tomorrow and thursday so won't be able to keep an eye on it. Just released it and it went around the tank flaring at everything, and then chased down every cory it could find

Have you tried moving things around in your tank? The betta may see the cories as intruders in it's territory. Moving things around would help if that's the case as he'd have to claim a new territory in keeping with the cories.

But still, he may settle down. I think he's just letting the tank know who's boss (like they care). I seriously doubt he will manage to eat one. Do you have plenty of cover for the corys?

Yes there are lots of plants and hiding places - some of them have been sitting inside the big silk plant, and there is a coconut cave, tube thing, rock and an assortment of wood that looks like Shrek's house

plenty of places to get away from him if need be then :) moving things around to mess up his territory might help. Personally I'd give it at least a week.
