So my landlord wanted to pull up our carpet and put down new hardwood floors. Nice right? Except the room that had the carpet in it was also home to three of my fish tanks. Most importantly my two biggest tanks sitting side by side in a tight nook.
Saturday came, and we started prepping the tanks for re-location. My wife and I had decided that we would be re-locating both of the tanks in the nook to make room to put a bigger tank there in the new future. While moving the 38 gallon onto a wheeled platform for moving it, the contractor that was helping me lift it slipped. Causing the 38 gallon tank to smash into the 55 gallon tank and cracking a huge hole in the side :S . Panic ensues.

My wife nets the two fish that are in the 55 gallon, a Green Severum and a juvenile Jack Dempsy, placing them into buckets filled with tank water. I'm trying to catch as much water as I can as the water is duping now into the now open top of the 38 gallons stand.

My lfs has agreed to watch the Severum for a couple of days while we get straight. My landlord agreed to purchase us a new tank. I felt obligated to buy the tank at the same store that is watching my fish for me, but they where out of 55 gallon tanks, So we got a 75 Gallon :p . I spent last night building a new stand for it, and it is up and running now. For the time being I put the Jack Dempsy in the 38 gallon tank hoping he could co-exist with the large Angel for a day or two. That didn't work, I woke up this morning to a dead Angel  . A whole weekend lost. An expense I wasn't expecting and I lost my prized Angel all for a new floor.

Thats awful.
I would be pulling my hair out.
Things can only improve.
R.I.P.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I keep putting off the new floor in our dining area which is where my 75 gallon tank is. I just don't want the hassle of moving it but it's got to be done soon. Good luck getting things sorted out.

Nightmare, sorry to hear about it. I know how you feel!! My sister decided to move 2 full tanks on her own a while back, one stand collapsed and emptied 100l onto the front room floor, losing about 10 fish and the 300l survived, god knows how.

Hope all gets back to normal soon.

well, at least your landlord was nice enough to pay for a new tank for you.

i would be happy that i was changing to hardwood though lol. If i had carpet where i have my tanks now, i bet there would be algae in the carpet o_O

and that's why everybody hates their landlords lol... Sorry to hear but that, but atleast he had the decensy to pay for a new tank.

Always check your floor board before putting loads on tanks on them..

 Sorry to hear that. I feel bad for you and the poor fish. Good luck with the new tank!

Hi dirtydogg,

What a mess! I'm so sorry to learn about your troubles.

On the brighter side though, the wood floor will be so much easier to keep clean and dry then the carpet was.

I'm not passing judgement on the situation, but personally this is why I'm not going to go with bigger tanks until I own my own place. A 29 is a hassle enough to move, let alone a 55 or 75. I already have a vision of a finished basement room full of tanks... Anyways, I really am sorry to hear about your problems, at least they got you a new tank, and the upgrade in size might help to somewhat ease the sting of the lost angel...

Sounds like something out of Mr.Bean lol

Sorry for you loss, But atleast you got a brand spanking new 75 Gal for free!!
