My doubletail boy flame was fine when I left school on Friday, I just came back this morning, ran into get my books, and he caught my eye for some reason as I walked past...... now I know why! He has barely any fins left. No signs of fin rot, NOTHING....... and they are really uneven making me think he may have chewed them off. I've never had this problem with him before, and can't figure out why he did what he did..... I'll be changing his water as soon as I get back from class and adding salt and melafix....... This really stinks, I had such a good weekend, just to come back to this...... Everyone else seems to be doing fine though......

Was he in a divided tank, maybe the other betta chewed his fins up and he couldn't fight back then the attacker jumped back onto his side. :dunno:

He's all by himself in a one gallon aquaview. I've had him for about 2 month, he has the most awesome colors and finnage ever, and now it's almost all gone :-( He is beside another male, but they pretty much ignore each other, actually come to think of it I've never seen him flare at Wally... Only other thing in the tank is a silk plant, so he must be biting, I just can't figure out why. I'm going to move him onto my desk so I can keep a better eye on him now.... and see what happens...... any other comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't count on the chewing thing everytime. My betta, Apollo, lives in a one gallon Aquaview and in the span of 6 hours he lost 1/2 of his tail and later lost some of the anal fin. I think whatever causes fin/tail rot got in the water--could be from the rusty screws that hold the lens in place in the top/lighting fixture. He grew his tail back and last week he lost a chunk again after I changed the water using a jug that I think had a bit of Algae in it.(found that out a day later). So, we are back to frequent water changes and keeping up with the salt and Melafix.

That is just my opinion and experience.
Check the screws--especially if you use the aerator (I had to stop the aerator so rust would not get into the tank anymore, this helped Apollo a lot)

Hope your fish gets better soon!!! :)
