So I got hitch hikers, no surprise. Was gonna be a live and let live unless they become a problem. When I first noticed them there were 4. So my tank is going trough the tedium of a fish in cycle and figured I must be crushing them or something when I do my water changes. No real loss as they are common pond snails. I seem to be down to one after two weeks. I saw eggs, Lots of them. I do not know if I'm still in for an infestation to occur. What's the average time it takes from egg to "that's no doubt a snail" and how long do those things live anyway? It's more of a curiosity than anything

I hate pond snails! I currently have a few left in one of my tanks, I only saw one so left it but there must have been more hiding because in a matter of weeks I had a good few hundred covering my tank. I ended up sitting in front of my tank for hours picking every single one out because of the rate they breed! However some fish do like to eat them (puffers and clown loach come to mind) so will be more than happy in your tank if you get some.
I ended up having to get assassin snails which are slowly tanking care of the job.
The pond snails do keep my tank lovely and clean from algae though, always a plus! Lol

I've always had pond snails. Infestation occurs when one overfeeds and there's too much debris around. The snails are just a sign something isn't right in the tank, but removing them doesn't solve the problem. As soon as one resolves the overfeeding, the snail population diminishes to almost nothing, at least not noticeable.

+1

Well not over feeding now but tank is suffering from to much over feeds when I had the tank running last year, before every thing got sick and died! My husband has now been grounded from touching the fish food and the filters. And we'll from pretty much everything except looking at the fish. The man can't even do a PWC right. Highly suspect most of the tank problems I've had with this tank that I never had in others.... The husband. I didn't have him when I had other tanks and never had problems.
