this is an old thread i know but ive just counted my fish and noticed some are missing?

im missing 1 leopard danio, 1 or 2 albino cory cats and a female black molly..

ive took out all the ornaments, checked everywhere and cant find them! do you think they have jumped out the tank and my dogs ate them?

either im seeing things or ive suddenly lost the ability to count
It's best to have a lid above the tank if the water is too high. I keep a mosquito carbon net lid and none of the fish can jump out. This should also help me keep swordtail fry inside, as when I was a kid I kept losing them as soon as I added them in the main tank, only to find them on the floor.
Dogs and cats can eat fish off the ground. Easy prey.

i have a lid on my tank though. the only holes are for the eternal filter pipes

are molly/platys or leopard danios predatory in any way?

cuz im sure im down a peppered cory aswell now. so far im missing in the past week or so

1 albino cory cat
1 molly
1 leopard danio
1 peppered cory cat

its not my dog cuz i sealed the tank pretty good last night. came home from work did a quick count and im down a peppered cory now? its not the filter cuz its got a grate thing over the intake. they havent died cuz ive checked everything. up rooted all the plants, replanted. even took out ornaments for a bit to see if any are hiding. nothing! is my tank like Bermuda triangle or something?

Other fish may eat a whole bigger dead fish if they join in.
Might explain where the body went.

i know danios can be nippy. they race around the tank literally dominating it lol. ive also seem them chase my shrimp n stuff. probs where some of them have gone aswell.

just in the middle of a big tank clean down to try and find these fish tbh. ive found the albino cory cat he was literally underneath one of the plants just chilling. still alive. but non of the other fish have turned up.

it is bad to stir up the gravel?

When you stir the gravel, it just throws in all the dirt that's been deposited there. Sand is easier to clean, stuff doesn't fall under it and fish usually stir it and clean it for you until you vacuum it or whatever. (I still don't have a gravel vac though so I net stuff out).

There are cases when the gunk from under the gravel might release ammonia (someone around this forum has experienced that but I don't remember where that thread was).

i think im just guna risk it for a biscuit and stir it up a bit. im starting to really hate the gravel now tbh. it just collects dirt. move it a tiny bit and the tank goes brown

might get some argos play sand when i get paid and start the process.

My fish love the sand. One female swordtail and the hoplo keep digging through it and filtering it. Other fish just peck stuff off of it.

just looking at sand prices n stuff. im thinking black sand with a small ammount of fine gravel mixed through it for a bit of texture. sound alrite?

As long as the gravel won't allow the dirt to go past the sand level, I guess it would look good. Maybe spread out the gravel so it doesn't form tiny cracks for gunk deposits.

If your gosh have fief for any reason then ghetto will a) start to de-compose & b) will be ate by your other fish ...... Hope this helps bud!
