Dirty Tank Help

i have a 55 gal tank and 2 hang on the back filters, ones a whisper filter and the other ones a penguin 350. i do a water change every week but no matter what i do there is always fish waist everywhere, not just a little but there is a ton of it i go through the filters in the filtration systems like crazy, i put one in 3 days ago and its already full of waist and i need to change them again is there something i can get or do to lower the waist in the water. i have tried almost everything.... any help is welcome thanks

How many fish do you have in there? Is it overstocked? Are you feeding them too much? When I overfeed mine they poo liike mad.

i have about 25 fish in there, i dont think i feed them to much as soon as i put the food in its gone in like 4 mins..... is there a filter that will help with tanking care of the poo on the ground?

That needs to be siphoned up during water changes. (aka YOU are that filter. )

You need to be vacuuming up all that poo when you do water changes. What kind of fish do you have? Some tend to poo more than others.

i have been vacuuming like crazy and it doesnt seem to do any good..... i have 4 plecos 6 giant danios 5 black skirt tetras 2 sword tails and 4 diamond danios... the tank never gets clean it just gets dirtier and dirtier..... i seem to be losing the battle... to poo...

Are you doing it right when you siphon the poo? Does some poo actually come out? I do it until the whole tank is clean once a week.

i do as much as i can but the water gets way too low for me to continue.... i have tried putting more in and continue but it doesnt seem to do any good there is just way too much in there... i have tried and tried and every week i clean it but i keep losing.....

Plecs are poo machines, thats probably why. Maybe just split the siphoning over two water changes a week, as in, do one half of the tank thouroughly on Monday, then on Wednesday do the other half. This gives the fish enough time to settle down after a waterchange but not enough for it to build back up tremendously on the other half.

Or you could get a powerhead and place it so it creates an upcurrent off the sand so all the poo is lifted up and will have more chance of getting into the filters.

What type of plecs do you have?

There shouldn't be that much poo every week. I'd cut way down on feeding for a bit and try and get it back under control. Fish don't need much food at all and it's ok to go days without feeding them. I think you need to cut back then get all that crap out.

Could you cup it out? Take a cup scoop a load up? Have a sieve on hand and put it into that and wash the gravel under a hot tap then put it back in by gently lowering it in a clean cup back into the tank and emptying it. It's just a suggestion till you get it under control.

Msybe also rehome the plecs?

maybe your filters are pants? I have 2 externals on my 4 footer, ive just done my weekly water change and havent even bothered vacuuming. Your plecs arent gonna help the matter. I feed 1-2 small helping aswell. cheers

I have 2 trinidads and 2 bristle nose but there still babys..... Maybe I am feeding too much ill try cutting down for a week and see
