I have a planted tank with a rock formation made out of pieces of granite rock. The Plec decided to dig around and under this formation to make his home. My question is this, If I put a pvc pipe in the tank and bury it under the large piece of wood in the tank and remove the rocks will he use that as his cave and stop the bloody digging? Rock formation to the right and piece of wood to the left. Picture of Tank below...

I noticed something about your tank setup...you have rocks just placed on the sand. If your fish digs under a rock the rock can collapse and well squish him. Some people have lost brittlenose plecs this way. I think you should push the rocks in the sand as much as possible (or anything else that is heavy and can squish a fish).

Brittlenose plecs LOVE to dig, you just need to make it safer for them to do so. I don't think you should remove the wood and the rocks because you've created a habitat masterpiece! :)

Yes good point about the rocks. I just have them lying on the subsrate, so I have to partly bury them. Thanx ppl :good:

I have two BNs, both of whom are disruptive diggers! One of them managed to collapse the terraced gravel in the last tank I set up within the first 12 hours he was in there, turning the entire place into what looked like a battle zone, complete with floating plants. What I did in the end was to prop the pieces of wood up securely on stones and to shore up the terracing with some slate. The result is two, happy, digging plecs who can now shift gravel to their hearts' content without either flattening themselves or demolishing the tank set-up.
