Different Test Kit

ok after having tried the interpet testing kit (it had tablets)i thought this was very poor and it didnt give me accurate readings so today i went to my lfs and bought a different kind .............this type is called tetratest this is a strip that u put in the water and it tests for 5 things but it dont test for ammonia i dont think??? can some one tell me if gh or kh is for the ammonia and if not will this test still be ok to use as i think this test is much easier to use than the interpet one but would like other members thoughts??? unfortuneatley these are the only 2 types of testing kits my lfs has so will i need to revert back to the crappy interpet kit for to test ammonia??? thanks in advance joe

Hi. GH and KH test kits measure the hardness of the water. GH is general hardness, and KH is carbonate hardness. KH is what helps the water resist changes in pH. So ya, if you can only get the 2 brands of test kits, then you will have to go back to the other one to test for ammonia.

thanks for the reply and i suppose ill have 2 change back which is a pain really as theres more hassle with interpet testing kit just out of intrest can you or any other forum member suggest a decent testing kit then??? as im visiting relatives in glasgow soon and will have more of a choice there thanks

I also use the API Liquid Test Kits and recommend them, I find them to be really good, and extremely economical.

Pets at Home sell it for a very reasonable £16.99 for the master test kit. Most LFS charge at least £20 in my experience.

I use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals test kits also. I find they give you the most liquid for the money.

I bought my master kit about a week ago and it is very easy to use and i reccomed it. It says over 700 tests but my master kit didint come with KH and GH so you might want to look for the master kit that comes with it.
But otherwise i recommend it
