I was just wondering. Are different species of fancy goldfish compatible in the same tank? I have presently 1 redcap oranda at about an inch long excluding the tail. I was just wondering if a water bubble eye goldfish, similar size will do fine with a RC Oranda. It is temporarily housed in a 10 gallon (with daily paretial water changes, good filtration and a healthy diet). Once my fish grow, i will upgrade the tank ASAP to at least a 20g plus. Thankyou for any responses. :)

As a goldfish owner, I can honestly say there is no point in putting 2 gf in a 10g tank if you want them to thrive. Wait until you get the 20, and THEN you should be fine to put 2 fancy goldfish together. If you want to ke a bubble eye tank though, you may have to sacrifice any ornaments with corners or sharp edges that could possibly damage or burst the bubble eyes.

The only way the fish will grow healthily is to provide the room at the very young stage of growth which is now. I believe you bought another oranda so you are overcrowding your tank as it is now.

I currently have 6 (was 9) Orandas in a 46gal tank, I have more than adequate filtration and take excellent care of them and I am very saddened when I lose one b/c the Oranda species are suppose to live at least suppose to live 25 years+ so it is very frustrating when I lose one because they are my babies and very well taken care of. I know they have swim bladder issues, but if you feed sinking food, you should steer clear of this and if it does occur, you can feed thawed out frozen green peas after squeezing them from the hull, and it should clear the problem right up, this has happened to me and 99% of the time it works, this is caused by them gasping at the top for food and absorbing air and also store bought foods, like many other animal foods are made cheap and the grains they contain produce gases in the intestinal tract which causes the swim bladder disease. The most common problem is over feeding and the waste converting to harmful nitrites and poor filtration to handle the ammonia they produce. Also a hazard is decorative ornaments in the tank when they bump into them causing their cap or wen to separate which is also easily fixed by melafix. Other than that, I expect mine to live a long long time! Now, the telescopes and celestials, I do see problems with breeding of this species to create a more desirable looking fish because they do have problems, oh, and I saw someone said the wen or cap does not grow to cover the face or eyes, this is also not true, it does, and some fish vets will do a wen removal surgery, but they can live just fine even if their vision is impaired, they have the sense of smell for their food! Just thought Id share my two cents! :p And to the original poster, most fancy goldfish are compatible, you just might have issues with the bubble eyed fish bursting their bubble. I have Orandas and a Lionhead and they are very resilient fish!

most fancy goldfish can be kept in the same tank if your tank is big enough. However, be aware to keep fish roughly same size. do not have a huge one and a tiny one together. Secondly. do not put fish who can swim very fast, with fish who is very gentle and clumsy.

i use have a babble eye whose eye is as big as egg, so he can not swim very fast. thus he can not compte for food and can be bullied sometimes
