[/B]Heres the three basic types of filtration out on the market.
Scale: 1 being crappy - 10 being wonderful
Scale for maintaining : 1 being easy 10 being hard
Steps for cleaning Sponge, H.O.B. filters:
- Rinse the Sponge part with some tank water, do not rinse with tap water because it will kill the beneficial bacteria
- Replace carbon every once in a while, carbon only removes meds, and smell etc. so it isnt that important on a daily basis
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Sponge Filters:
Description: The basic way to filter - Using Air, this filter pumps bumbles to creat a low suction filter that is placed underwater. The problem is that you have to constantly change it and that requires taking it out of the tank, making it a hassle...
Maintaining: 6/10
Filter Change: Every 2 weeks or less...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hang-On-Back Filters ( Hobs )
Description: In my opinion, my favorite way of filtering, Using a mini sum-pump, this filter gathers water through a intake tube, passes it through a chamber containing filter cartridges, and out through a waterfall-like discharger. I like these the most because it creates a mini water fall...
Maintaining: 3/10
Filter Change: Every 2-3 weeks
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Canister Filters
Description : The best way to filter, these filters take out lots of fine particles and are best suited for larger aquariums...The filter runs like a H.O.B. filter and instead, sits underneath the aquarium table or next to it, its very versatile. It sucks out water with an intake and dispells water through a seperate hose.
Maintaining: 2/10
Filter Change: Every week to a week and a half. ( Collects particles fast thus slowing down its intake/outspell rate. )
