Made an illustration of the different body shapes in guppies.
I'm not a huge fan of short body varieties, tbh...

Not unless it is a balloon platy- they are especially short.super short looks like a platy...
the largest female swordtail i have is really plump and sort of dwarf, but she's less than a year old. It reminds me of a pregnant platyNot unless it is a balloon platy- they are especially short.
So weird though, I didn't even know the super short guppies existed lol.
ThanksNice illustration!
I dislike super shorts as well... Not my cup of tea...Never knew about Super Shorts. Not that attractive . Reminds me of Balloon Mollies which don't really grab me either.
In Asia they are fascinated by creating other body types. I'm partially asian as well but I don't like those short bodied varieties.I'm guessing everybody concentrates on coloration /colouration and nobody breeds for body type
I prefer the normal bodied ones. But everybody's got her/his own preference of course...I like the short body best. Super short looks unnatural to me and the normal are okay but....
Looks more like balloon molly to me...super short looks like a platy...
In general, they do have a problem to swim but I also have to admit that the balloon mollies overhere are still pretty fast swimmers. Btw, I didn't get them on purpose but they were left behind by an acquaintance of mine. Still looking for someone who wants them. One would think it would be difficult for them to swim properly. I feal bad for the fancy goldfish and other "balloon" live bearers...
Yes, all that extra load can make it harder to swim.I've had some guppies that fall into the normal category but had rather rounded body shape. They kind of struggled to swim and I promised myself to never get any shaped the way again.
