maybe he needs some tank mates if he perked up a bit to the firemouth. Try something that isn't a cichlid. I think a lot of rainbow fish and larger barb species would be compatible. It' really hard to say what's going on, here.

If I had enough cash I would of got some but I dont even have enough at the moment to get any parasite treatment.
I have a school of neons I could put in?
He did perk up a bit to have a look at the FM but then layed back down.

Many fish parasites are treated with non-iodized salt. You can identify the parasite by a mucus scrap...

Tough, I wouldn't recommend. You don't know for sure if your fish has it or not, so i advise you to stay away since it might cause more stress.

Update : Im feeling pretty happy, when I turned the lights out, he got off the bottom of the tank and started swimming normally around, So I dropped a few tetra sticks in there and he munched them down while the lights were out, so Whats the problem with the lights, I watched him for about 10 minutes and he was acting pretty normal in the dark.

Stress. Fish are mostly calmer if they don't see anything.

I don't know... Fish are have kind of their own way of thinking! My angel is terrified when I take of the hood for example!

Lol I guess so, but he does still seem a little weaker though from when I first had him..

A little update - he ate some pellets this morning, had a swim and then went back to lie down, perhaps hes a lazy #28###?

I think it was the fact that you took his convicts away. Then you gave him a firemouth for a short while and it stimulated him. Try turning the lights off for half an hour before you feed him and leave them off while he eats. Maybe he will get his strenght back if he eats in peace for a few days. Good luck... keep me posted!

Update - Hes back to his normal self! He eats now, is very active and comes to handfeed again
