Ok foss,

you have inspired me to do this DIY thing so I have found a tank in my local free ads paper. its a bit biger than yours and a bit more expensive.

I have contacted the guy and I will pick the aquarium up this weekend. PRoblem is, I have to drive to manchester and I live on the Wirral.

OK

the tank is 250cm x 70cm x 70cm and it cost me 400 pounds.

So my plan is to build the bio filter in the back of the aquarium and build the sytrofoam background around the filter.

Qestions.

1. is it better to use plexiglass for the filter or glass?

2. if glass how thick does it need to be.

3. what is the type of silicone i need to use.

I have loads of other questions for you to answer so I need your help before the weekend.

Just to let you know

my background

I have had aquariums for 5 years now and i have 3 tanks all around 150 x 50 x 50 but nothing that i have built.

so this is going to be interesting.

The filtration needed on a tank that size will be large. If you keep the filter in the tank you are going to lose a lot of space in the tank. You would do better with a sump or external cannister filter.

Yea i know im going to lose space but I dont want have pipes going under the tank and I want to make a hood that you dont have to take off.

Also i wan to make it look clean and slimline. I have spoke to foss weeks ago whn i was at a friend s house and he showed me diagrams and photos of how it can be done with the minimal of space being used.
