This morning my partners son decided to hold a deodorant can under the water and spray it, ALOT! Not of the fish seem ill but I dont want to take any chances. Any idea what I could do apart from a big water change?

50% w/c to dilute it, any signs of problems, do another w/c, not much else you can do.

On another note, I hope we are not condoning violence again children on this forum

hopefully the fact that it's no longer in a pressurised can means it will turn into gas and dissipate fairly quickly, although not all deodorants will form a gas, some are just liquid. water changes are the only thing I can think of too. I'd kill my daughter if she did anything like that! I guess look through the ingredients and see what is in it that could be toxic, then worry specifically about those.

why did he do it!?!?! if i had done anything like that i think i would deserve a slap! i know, instead of violence, ban him from chocolate for ever. Muhahaha! it seems that all you can do is water changes. are they showing any signs of illness?

cheers :good:

You could always add carbon too...

This is the best thing to do, along with some large water changes.

While slapping the kid real good, or perhaps holding his head underwater in the tank is a first instinct, it pays to use your brain a little, being the adult. I learned to replace window glass at a young age due to errant baseballs & such, if the kid broke it involve the kid in fixing it. Have him lug some heavy buckets of water for water changes, teaching him how to start a siphon for water changes could be entertaining as well as educational.

and make him suck to start it, and don't tell him to stop sucking...

I would get a bucket and fill it with water, dechlorinate it, then put your fish in it and do more or less a full water change, just take out as much water has possible.

Refill, dechlorinate tank, add fish back, next day do a 50% water change, should be fine.

Personally i would not even consider leaving the fish in that water as it is at all.

its freaking kid.. get over it! but he definitely need a be punished.

when i was a young kid, i even build a torture camber for insects.

but at 16 i was full time vigilante for nesting sea turtles.
we protect the turtles by severally beating up the punchers.

we all kid ones.. and then we grow up.
