Decoration Weight Limit.

That's definitely something I'm going to get handled asap. I thought it would have been fine with just any piece of wood.
Do you think i should hold off on putting the heavier rocks in until I get a stronger piece of wood?

I'm getting really worried now, if its on a piece of particle board that's the exact size of the aquarium, then on the amp, is that alright?

Am I the only one concerned about the tank standing on an amp???

The vibration and noise is going to do more harm to the fish than a couple of badly placed rocks!!

It has been noted that the amplifier is non operational.

No need to freak out, it's not going to let go immediately. But added bracing is needed. A quick box frame would be quick and easy. A couple of cross braces, paint it black and bingo the amplifier becomes the pedistal again.

Missed that...my bad!! Carry on, nothing to see here!

Haha no problem. The minute I noticed that I didn't mention that it didn't work I rushed to post it, to not look cruel.

Do you think that the box is necessary or would a piece of thick ply wood do the trick?

Yeah, nigsy, we all miss tidbits from time to time.

About the box 2x4s on end around the perimeter of the plywood base.(same dimensions as frame of tank). 2X4 crossbracing if you like. And 2x4 legs at the corners to trasnfer the weight to the floor. Paint to match amplifier and there you go.

I used 3/4" plywood for my 55gallon cabinet, but I also like to overbuild.

If I put 1 or 2 pieces of plywood on top of each other and glued them, do you think that would be alright.
The aquarium is already pretty high off the ground, I don't want to make in any higher.

I've seen pedestal stands and they have a piece of wood the size of the tank and sits on and box around the edge about 3 inches deep depending on the size of the tank. The "box" had some corner bracing but nothing additional between the top and the body of the stand.

I'm a bass player and can tell you that the fish are going to feel the vibrations if the tank is on the amp, or if it is any where in the vicinity. Bass sound waves travel very far and maintain their strength, especially through a solid, like a shared floor. I've played, very loudly I might add, while watching my fish tank. I've never seen fish dart around because of this type of noise, but someone stomping on the floor will get a reaction.

Again, as I said, the amp doesn't work.
Also I didn't quite understand what you meant.

Still, would two pieces of thick ply wood glued together be good enough?

I can't say for sure about the plywood, but if it is thick enough it should work.

As to the rest of my comment, what I meant was that if the tank is on the amp or just in the same room, or maybe even in an adjacent room, the fish are going to get about the same amount and strength of vibrations and, from my observations, don't seem to react to my bass, but if someone stomps on the floor they do react.

Ah OK, that was my miss reading. Sorry.
Anyways I plug my bass into my PC and listen through headphones, so regardless they wont feel any vibrations.

I think I'm going to go the ply wood route. I'll check this thread before I buy it to make sure no one has told me i shouldn't.
Thank you all for your help.
