so i have a hexagonal tank in which i want to put a betta.

just wondering what decoration i could have that would be suitable with them.

i would like a piece of wood hanging down from the top of the tank with moss and plants attached. sand substrate for the corys which live plants at the back and some kind of slate structure on the bottom.

would this be suitabe with a betta.

if not, what would you ssuggest, its a tall tank

That sounds like a really attractive tank :good: With a tall tank make sure there are areas the betta can rest on when making a trip to the surface.
IMO, real plants look far more nicer than fake ones. They also are good for removing waste substances from the water as well as oxygenating it.

Other than that, have fun when decorating it!

You can buy a VERY realistic looking false "root" which may do the trick, or simply have a good hunt in stores for a piece of bogwood that is fairly thin.

You may have difficulty though if the tank is a small hex. If it's a large one then things will be easier to scape and plant.

I tried bogwood in my 5 gal hex tank and it simply overpowered the look of the thing so I took it out. Duncan had virtually no space!

In my hex tank now I have a tall Roman column type ornament with a piece of slate on top that has Java moss tied to it, a few Amazon swords, an Aponogenton , a Moss ball and what I suspect may be Myriophyllum mezianum. Here's a pic :

thank you very much, it is inspired by a tank at my lfs

do you think the bettas fins would be ok on the edges of the wood/slate?

i dont want to cram the tank with decorations just wood at the top and a few plants crppeing up the back of the tank

i was hoping to get some wood (cant remember the name, pale beech colour) with branches coming off, however its bloomin expensive!

Mopani wood?....I can't remember either. Wood is outrageously priced I think. I got both of my pieces from my brother though. I won't buy the stuff unless I absolutely have to. Even a small piece is about £8 round here.

I think I'm right in saying that The Range do very cheap Mopani Wood in different sizes.

i have had a look on their website, cant find much

might go into the store though sometime

Yeah....best to go there as they have quite a large aquatic range of stuff that isn't on their website and at really good prices :good:

Is there any half decent looking silk plants? My bettas tank is dire at the min. Horrible £5 Wilkinson jobby with a heater the width of the tank and a filter in the corner with a rock over the output to stop the current. All very hastily pot together as i had to remove him from my 15gal as he was attacking the corys

Hopefully when I pick up something nicer ill get some sand and silk plants so its low low low maintenance, Hex tnak up top looks really nice!
