Dechlorinator

Be careful using products that "converts ammonia to non-toxic form" or "detoxifies nitrite and nitrate". If a chemical is detoxifying them, you are not forming bacteria to process them so your tank will NEVER cycle. You will be dependent on chemicals forever. Also, to the best of my knowledge, there is NOTHING that will take nitrate out of the water except water changes.

Edited for spelling.

What do you use for dechlorinator? I would like to get the biggest bottle at the cheapest price from my local pet store. I really don't want to use products that "convert ammonia into a non-toxic form" but I couldn't find anything that didn't have it.

*EDIT*
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Super Strength Tap Water Conditioner
Is it good? It says that removes heavy metals and chlorine. Is chloramine a heavy metal? It also says neutralizes ammonia. Is this the same as converting it into a non-toxic form?

I use Stress Coat and it works great. I just ordered a gallon from Big Als for $24.99. That's much cheaper that paying $5 or $6 in a LFS for 8 oz. You probably will have to buy a small squeeze bottle of some type to put it in for ease in using.

Is chloramine a heavy metal?
Does Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Super Strength Tap Water Conditioner take care of the job pretty well?

I've never used that but I do like AP products. They also make Stress Coat which I use. I'm sure the Tap Water Conditioner will work. I know the Stress Coat does.

No, chloramine is not a metal.

You need to buy one that says eliminates chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals. If it says other things thats fine, just make sure it says these 3 key things.

I have used Tetra aqua safe, and Jungle start right with no problems what-so-ever.
(mainly b/c that's all my LFS's have  )

rdd1952,

Tetra actually does make something that is supposed to slow the accumulation pf nitrates, but not forever. it won't eliminate alot of what's already in there, but it does eliminate some (so it claims), so you still have to do a water change, just not as often.

So the beneficial bacteria will never make the tank cycle? Or very slowly? I don't mind, I have an RES in there that doesn't really care about the water qualities that much. It is doing great, I just do water changes.

Oh I WISH it was that cheap (or could buy in that quantity) here in the UK :(
