Dechlorinator

Hi Guys

I was just about to buy some dechlorinator and came across some seachem prime, i've been using aquasafe for the last year think i might give this stuff ago sounds pretty good. Well anyways just got me thinking what does everyone else use?

there is that many to pick from its hard to know if 1 is gonna be better than another

what do you look for? i normally go for something that removes chlorine as well as chloramines also value for money.

Pond dechlor and seachem prime are both much better value for money than the ones aimed at aquariums generally. I got some tetra pond stuff, enough to treat 5000l, for the same price as tetra aquarium one, enough to treat 500l!
I think prime treats about the same amount as the pond stuff and has the added advantage of making safe any small amounts of ammonia inthe tank, useful if you're just starting a tank up and always handy to guard your fish against random spikes from dead fish etc

i normally look for the ones that remove Chlorine and Chloramine, and offers protection to the fish.. Yeah value for money plays a big part in it aswell

prime is the most economic by a loooong shot. tetra aquasafe you need to dose 5ml per 10L of water (if i remember correctly), with seachem prime 5ml treats 200L, thats not a typo! it also detoxifies ammonia, which is created in the dechlorinating process.
anyone that doesn't use prime should try and find some, seriously, it will save you a lot of money in the long run

I use Prime. Basically what you want is a water conditioner that removes chlorine and chloramines but conditioners like Prime and Amquel that neutralised ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are also EXTREMELY useful in the event of a disaster, ie you discover an ammonia spike in the morning and have to run to work. Simply dump 5x the dose fo Prime and it will act as a stopgap measure until you get home to change the water.

At the moment I use API water conditioner, its a tiny bottle, I think 50ml, but it treats 2700l, Although from what you guys have said I will get some Prime when I run out.

Glad this question was put forward, i'll definately be getting some prime next time around (currently using Tetra Aquasafe)
