Hey guys. I currently have 4 tropical tanks.

a 5ft 460L Tank
a 3 ft 160L tank
a 3ft ish 125L tank
and a little cube effort

Im debating changing the largest one into a marine setup using Live Rock, Skimmer and a fluidised bed filter. Keeping the 2 external canister filters for dirt trap and water movement. But i dont think that i could fit a sump to it because the cabinet will loose all the downward slats and im not convinced it would be strong enough with these missing.

Would this work?.
I currently have 2 T8 light tubes which i would have to change but would i have to go for T5 tubes or is there some t8s that would work?

I kno not many people do it but can the heaters stay in the tank?

Any other things i would need. execpt alot of salt! and obviously test kits etc.

Cheers!

What sort of tank are you going to set up? Reef or FOWLR or FO?

The type of tank will determin the equipment you need

Stable reef temperature is important. But, if you keep your heater, it must be a heater that can be used in both fresh and SW systems. I've had friends crash their tanks because they used a cheap heater that's only for FW. Should say on the packaging whether it's rated for both fresh and saltwater.

Was thinking Reef system really. with the size of the tank id like to get as much out of it as possible if you get me! I know that if i did fish only then id only wanna put corals and such in at a later date!

Since you want to go reef, I'd put in the effort to get a sump in there. Get a new stand or something. Eventually you are not going to like all the clutter that having the extra things in the tank gives it. ie. heater. maybe a hob skimmer, hob reactor etc.

Go sump.
