I have a tank of 5 cichlids and I just found a dead Huntsman spider in the tank at the bottom. It couldn't have been in there more then a couple days.

I've never heard of this happening in anything I've read about fish... I need advice on what I should do, should I move the fish to a different tank.

Any advice appreciated.

NOTE: The fish show no signs of poisoning, but the tank water is cloudy, but they may have been caused by the water change that was being done around the same time.

Do a 50% WC, and keep an eye on the water parameters. I don't thiink you'll need to move them to a new thank unless they are showing signs of stress

I'm doing a 25% water addition... I can't do a 50% water change.

The pH of the tap water and tank water is 2.5 pH different. A 50% change would cause a rapid fluctuation in the pH of the tank. The tank already had had the water removed for the 25% water change prior to the spider ending up in it as far as I can tell. A 50% change of existing water would be effectivly a 75% water change for the fish.

Doing a 50% change is more likely to kill the fish then the spider as far as I can tell.

As of yet there are no additional signs of stress.

I'm hoping that the 25% water addition will atleast dialute anything in the tank until I can safely to a further water change (the pH has to equalise).

Thank you for the advice though.

I haven't checked nitrite in the last few days, but ammonia was checked only an hour ago prior to the spider being detected, and showed a level of about 0. No change since the last time it was tested days ago.

Oh, in that case, a smaller WC will be ok. I don't think the spider should cause a lot of trouble.
