dead live rock

I think you mayfind that sand stone is a little TOO porous and wont slow down the internal flow of water enough to turn nitrates to nitrogen. My earlier xample of the consistancy of sandstone may have been a poor one. What i was trying to elude to was that liverock tends to crumble under pressure as its made up mainlt of lots of tiny coral particles. Granite rocks or other similar hard rocks are sold and water cannot pass through it.

hey i went to my pet shop today and looked at their base rock and it was similar to the rock i have collected is base rock the same as reefbones???

Reef bones is actual liverock that has been left on the sides of docks etc to dry out. so in all purposes its liverock without the life.
Base rock can sometimes be a missunderstood title. "Base rock" can be like reefbones but there is also a name of base rock that is used for solid rocks that provie not filtration purposes and only offer structural strength. So in asnwer to your question..

I dont know
