I had 3 dwarf puffers. I discovered today that 1 was dead at the bottom of the tank. The other 2 are ok but one looks as though its got swimbladder. Ive turnt down the filter current even more and he seems better but im not sure
Any help highly appreciated!

No,there was no aggression. She was always ;ying on the floor
The water parameters are:
Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0.1

How did you cycle the tank before adding the Puffer?

Tetra safestar which has been proven to contain live bacteria. If you wanted(which i dont do) you can add this and fish the same day as it instantly adds bacteria into the tank!
Please help with my puffer problem! My tank is cycled...the readings are perfect!

Where did the 2 extra DPs come from? Thought you only had 1 in a 3 gallon

Your filter is probably still not mature enough. DPs are very sensitive. The only suggestion I can make is to do a 20-30% partial water change daily until the little guy is better. Adding more fast growing plants might help. They are curious little fish and will nose around when they are happy. Good luck.

if you've got a nitrite reading, then your stats AREN'T perfect, and from what I hear, puffers are both messy, and sensitive to nitrites.

your tank is probably still cycling.

He died last night :( The 2 new ones must have introduced soemthing into the tank
Ok, ill be doing a large water change tonight, add cycle stuff ands leave it running whilst on holiday. When i get back ill get 2 more and leave it as that. They started dying since i added soem more plants....dont htey agree with a certai one?
Thanks for all the help and ill update you when i get back from holiday and get some more Dps
I got the 2 new ones from the same place as the first

I think its unlikely that some mysterious unknown disease was introduced to the tank and killed them that quickly without warning. A quick review of google suggests that Tetra SafeStart sucks. This is confirmed by your nitrite reading and probably the cause of the deaths.

the only live bacteria that works is Bio-Spira and your HAVE to add fish right away or the bacteria die off. They feed on the ammonia from fish waste.

Okay thanks for all that :good:
Ive decided to maybe ditch the dwarf puffer tank and get a figure 8...or i might just stick to the DPs. To make the tan bracish for the figure 8, id need to follow the instructionsn on the box right eg 5 ml per 4 litres or something
