:( Hi i came home from work today to find my Angelfish dead. :( Tank has been set up for a full week b4 i added the fish 5 days ago (angelfish,1 guppy, 2 red eye tetra & 2 black phantom)

tested the water with these results:
Ph: 6.8, Nitrate: 0ppm ,Nitrite: 1.0ppm ,Ammonia 0.0ppm
Temperature @ 26

Are these extremely out ?
I planned to do a water change on saturday but will do it tonight when i come in from football. Thanks in advance guys.

High nitrite looks to be the cuuse of the death, I would recommend you do a water change for a few days to get it down.

As your tank was not cycled before adding the fish the nitrItes are the cause of death. If you are going to cycle with fish it is best to just use a couple of small fish which are quite hardy and do small daily water changes of 10%.
you will need to check your water daily with a test kit to monitor the ammonia and nitrIte.... you will know when the tank is cycled as you will have zero reading of nitrIte and ammonia. but you will have a reading for nitrAte.... this should ideally be the same as your tapwater reading for nitrAte.

when this happens you may start adding other fish slowly.....1 or 2 small ones at a time....keep checking your water with the test kit after each addition.

angels should be the last fish added to the tank as they are more sensitive than most to the toxins in the tank during cycling.

To be quite honest with you I don't hold out a lot of hope for the other fish you have in the tank.....the ammonia and nitrItes are going to leave them with damage to the gills. The water changes may help with this.

good luck :)

Ok done a water change however ignore the previous results as a few of the tests i f**ked up by not adding 2 diff. bottles oops! :/

Anyways did a 10-15% water change and got these results for my 2 tanks:

Tank 1
Ph: 7.0 Nitrate: 5.0ppm Nitrite: 2.0ppm Ammonia 2.00

Tank 2
Ph: 6.6 Nitrate: 5.0ppm Nitrite: 1.0ppm Ammonia 0.50

Im gonna continue to do water changes every 2 days should this help lower the ammonia and nitrites?
Thanks 4 the help as always :D
