Dark gray or red, natural-looking substrates?

Rice paddies sometimes have lobsters and big fish sometimes which is cool saw a video once where they just grab giant fish out of the water!
yes! in fact, the first aquaponic crops were rice plantations with carp that served as animal protein in china thousand of years ago, and carp are no small fish.
Also in other places there are snake heads, frogs and, as you said, freshwater prawns. However, usually in rice fields that are not so deep (like the ones in the video) it is more common to find labyrinth fish, rasboras and small crustaceans rather than large prawns.

Some of the larger gourami species, including the moonlight, are raised as food fish in paddies. Golden apple snails are a huge problem in rice fields because they eat the young plants, so people are learning to eat them too. It seems that, in rural Southeast Asia, it does not pay to be a picky eater. :)

damn here apple snails are a native species so they do not really affect the local ecosystems but i can see how they would affect the rice paddies
