I bought 2 zebra danios and a leopard today, as I heard they were hardy fish for a new tank. I was reading up more about them and discovered that they are easy to breed. The zebras appear to be males and the leopard a female (she's a bit chubbier). Is it possible for the zebras to breed with the leopard? If so, what pattern would the fry have? Some leopard and some zebra, or some crazy mixed pattern?

Leopard Danios and Zebra Danios are the same species. The Leopard is simply a colour variation of the regular Zebra. Being the same species, they will, of course, breed, and the results will be a mish-mash.

Danios are a true shoaling fish. 3 specimens is too small to be a group. In such small numbers, you may find they become excessively aggressive and may kill other tank mates or each other.

Ok, thanks for the advice, I'll get 2-3 more. I will be gradually moving the fish in my 10ga tank into the 22ga tank the danios are in, do you think danios would school with tetras at all?

Shoaling/schooling is a defensive mechanism. If fish feel threatened, they school up. Very similar fish may form mixed schools, fish as disparate as Danios and Tetras would need to feel really insecure to form schools. If they did, I'd suggest your tank was well out of balance.

i had a single pair of danios 1 Zebra and 1 long finned leopard, they never got aggressive although having plenty of room might have helped and my tetras woulda fought back LOL but when i moved them to a bigger tank i left the fake rock in old tank and within days had bout 10-15 baby danios all with zebra pattern i didnt even know they were preggas, unfortunately i moved them into the new tank 2 soon and my big black widow gobbled em up, he literally hunted em once he knew they were there while my guppies and danios gave up after 1 chase. wots ideal age to add baby fish like these to a tank with adult fish????

also if ya do get more danios try getting a long finned variety they look quite pretty
i also now have another 1 of each danio but these are still young.

but in general u need a few more and they are very lively fish so do need some room for charging round the tank playing all day.
