Danios, Platies And Black Widow Tetra

Just went to my LFS to pickup some platies the other day (had one of my die off) Anyways, I was about to buy some platies and was wondering out loud If that would be okay with danios. The LFS girl went almost ballistic, telling me I couldnt keep danios with platies. I know that I have hit some kind of middle ground with a 7 ph and a KH of around 60 (slightly hard) Should I really be worried? She steered me towards buying Black Widow Tetras. Should I still go out and buy platies? This is in a 35USG Tank with a rather large amount of plants..

I can't understand why the lady would go ballistic. Unless of course you shopped at a pet land! I had a lady there refuse to sell me the fish I want, basically telling me that I don't know how to take care of my own fish tank.

I have six zebra danios and four platies and have never had one single problem. My zebra danios hang out mostly towards the top of the tank and are fast darters and my platies hang around the middle to bottom unless it's feeding time. They get along great.

Go ahead and get you those platies!

i would try it and maybe do a little reserch on Google or just try it and see. if they are not compatable you can always just scoop them into a bag and take them back.

I've kept 6 glofish with 10 platies and have no problems. I don't understand why that girl went crazy but then its only lfs workers does that I seen all time. Just don't keep a single danio with platies or else it will nipping the fins. So you need six danio to solve the problems and make sure you get two female and a male platies.

I second that about getting more females than males when you get the platies. I got some the other day, told the girl I want 2 females 1 male and she put 2 males 1 female in there by mistake. Now one male is getting beaten up and the female harassed.

So now I gotta get more platies. Such a tragedy.

Thanks all, I indeed put 3 females and 1 male Platy (as I had one female) The Black Widow tetras do like to school a lot tough. It's now kind of an underwater ballet. My GF and roommates love it. B)
