Just added four Buenos Aires Tetra to our new tank where four Zebra Danios have been living for the past week. At feeding time, the Danios ravenously eat all the food while the Tetras swim obliviously below. If they do get a bite of the falling food, they seem to be spitting it back out. I'm feeding them Spectrum .5mm sinking pellets.

What food might the BA Tetras prefer? How might I keep the greedy Danios at bay?

Try pre soaking the food in a bit of tank water, then use something to squirt some food lower down in the tank (I use a turkey baster) and also drop some at the surface. This way both types of fish should be able to feed.

I soak mine in an eggcup which I use purposely for fishtank use only, works well.

I just tried out some flakes, and we've had a complete role reversal. Now the Tetra are darting up to devour the food as fast as they can while the Danios are hanging below to catch the falling scraps. I think this arrangement is perfect.

Would there be any reason to bother with pre-soaked, baster-injected pellets at this point?

No need to bother if your fish are now managing to get their fair share of food.

So problem solved
