i went to one of my LFS and was looking at the cold water fish and there were zebra danios in with goldfish. is it ok to keep danios in cold water, i know they are very hardy but always thought they were tropical fish?
thanks
Lloyd

Many of the smaller danios are much happier at ~20C than typical tropical temps of ~25C. A small "summer season" of heat will trigger spawning, but a regular high temp will increase their metabolic rate and therefore shorten their lives.

Depending upon the size of the goldfish (who definitely fit the "if it fits in mouth it probably will do eventually" scenario), Zebra Danios would be fine with them.

oh right im currently keeping my leopards at 27 so i might turn it down abit would platys and corys and ameno shrimp be ok abit lower 22-23?
you learn something new everyday :good:
Thanks

yeah defiantly needs lowering. What type of corys? Most love colder temps. All of them fish should be fine at that temp but lower it slowly.

they are bronze.
i also have a dwarf gourami in there but think im moving him to another tank soon.
thanks

Yeah they will do fine at lower temps. The gouramis wont like it but if there moving then defiantly lower it once there gone.

thank the gouramis are out now and im going to lower the temp 1 degree a day until about 21-22.

Sounds good. If its the stocking you have in your sig you still have some room left IMO. You could have something like
10 Leopard danios
6 Bronze corys
3 Platties
4 Amano shrimp
3 (1m 2f) Badis of some type
3 Hara hara or Hara jerdoni or a type of Akysis if you can find them or Garra flavatra

Thanks just about to do a post asking about posable stocking :good:
they all look really cool, i havent seen any of them before.
are badis a type of cichlid?
thanks
Lloyd

They all do well in temps around 18-22 so will fit well. They are quite rare but nothing that you wont be able to find if you look around. The Garra flavatra and 2 types of Akysis are for sale in Wildwoods so might be worth a look.
Im not sure what group they fit into if im hones. There from asia though so not new or old world cichlids.

i think i might get the Garras they look very interesting but i would have to increase current in my tank at the min its a flulval u2 which is quite weak.
is there any way i can speed up the current (is that what power heads do?)
Thanks
Lloyd

Theres some in wildwoods for £5 each and £15 postage so there not going to be cheap. Yeah a small power head should do the job. Im thinking of gettting one from here for my 21G maynmar biotiope.

Yeah i am going to find out which days i can get off work next week and then order them :D ,
how many should be kept together?
is there anything else i need to know about them?
thanks for the help
Lloyd

I would go for 3 as they do like company. A good place for info on them is seriously fish but for some reason i cant get on it at the moment. If you google seriously fish and then type garra in the search they should come up.
