Looks like two of my danio fry might well be Danio Kerri/Danio Nigrofasicatus hybrids.

I'm not posting this in the Hybrids forum as, if they are Hybrids it's entirely down to the fish.

I suppose it's inevitable when you collect eggs from the filter in a community tank.

Be interesting to see if they are sterile, if not a new Danio species is born....

I'll try -they are a bit small yet though

No, not really...

Well that depends.

If they produced fertile offspring regularily when hybridised then they would both be races of the same species. Very unlikely in this case as they are totally different and one is twice the size of the other.

On the other hand very occasionally two different species do hybridise and produce fertile offspring and a third species is the result.....

Some of the hybrid fry are getting on for 2cm long now.

They essentially look like a semi albino kerri with red fins.

They all appear to look like males so far so are probably sterile.

Interestigly now they are all in the 55 gal tank they have separated largely into three shoals- roseus kerri and hybrids!
