Danio feegradei

Thanks Paul - just checked them out :hey:

Hi Paul

Well I went to check them out again today - and I'm very very tempted to add 6 or so to my tank (yikes but at £3.50 each they are not cheap) BUT - I stood in front of their tank watching them for a good 10 minutes - and those little fish really are maniacs.
They zoom around the tank chasing each other just non stop - though I did not witness actual nipping as such. There were probably about 10 or so of them in the tank and all more or less of the same size (1.5 " excluding tail). And the Emperor Tetras in the same tank they completely ignored as well as a few bottom dwellers - can't remember what else there was in tank. But the were only interested in each other.
I don't know if it was the males chasing the females, but it seemed pretty much random to me. So the one being chased would just turn around and chase someone else (type thing).

Whereas the Danio Hikari (I bought last week) in the tank next to them - are much more peaceful and really don’t ever chase each other. They are still pretty fast aka Danio style, but not quite the madness of the Freegradei.

They also had some Pearl Danio (gorgeous) and much cheaper at £1.25 each. But I think I'm just going to stick to the Hikari for now.

Do your Freegradei behave in the same manner ?
(By the way, Terry said he knew who I was talking about when I said I spoke to you :) ).
Oh ps: Is it Danio Feegradei (as per your title) or FReegradei ?

Theyve got:

1) Feegradei
2) Hikari - yellow and blue in the same tank
3) sp Pantheri (labelled as pathrina as far as I can remember)
4) Roseus
5) Kyathit spotted
6) Kyathit Striped
7) Nigrofasciatus (in the kyathit spotted tank)
8) abolieatus
9) Choprae

They had dangila recently but they sold out real quick

Yes feegradei are absolutely manic! I bought three from Terry yesterday and have four older ones from Wildwoods. They go for your fingers when you put food in and are the hungriest danios Ive ever seen. Last night one of the males I bought from terry jumped out of the water NINE times in three minutes. They jump out vertically like rockets and even though my spawning tank is only half full he hit the lid several times. I heard one report of a batch of killer feegeadei that reduced themselves from 10 to 1 in an amazing display of aggression but I have not had anything other than boisterousness. Mine live quite happily with centimetre long nigrofasciatus youngsters!

I thought terry would know. Did he ask if I was the older or younger one (the older danio enthusiast being Mr Cottle!

The feegradei originally turned up as danio sp yoma.

Perhaps they should have been called danio sp nutter

:S wow I can believe that ! They are nutters indeed - though from what I assessed in a short time, I would say they are not aggressive to other fish. I just didn't want such absolute manic fish in my tank - I'm trying to go for the calmer pretty look :D

No he didn't ask - he was in a rush (he's usually either in a rush but more likely having lunch  neither ever a very good time to have a lengthy conversation with him ! )

 just saw this pic of the Danio dangila and it's beautiful. I can start to see the Danio appeal now

The dangila are lovely and they grow 6 inches long. Heaven knows how many eggs they lay at once...

typically D.danglia lay around 300 eggs at each spawning

hey Paul. bloo
I noticed on fishbase they have a common name for feegradei
listed as Sinikylkiseeprakala (Finnish)
I asked Rain- to translate this into English and here is the translation
Sinikylkiseeprakala means: sini (sininen) = blue,
kylki = side seeprakala = zebra danio

so my question is does this seem to match up to the fish :dunno:

I'm off to see Terry today to buy some, I may also get some more Hikari.
I wonder if he has any microrasboras in stock too
