Hiya All

My dalmation Molly is no longer a dalmation!!

Originally it was mainly black with silver markings, now it has turned almost totally black - is this normal? or should I be worried?

My other Molly which is primarily silver with black markings hasn't lost colour but is inactive and at the bottom of the tank doing not much at all.

PH = 7.5
NitrAte = 5.0
Nitrite = 0
Amonia = 0
Temp = 80

Thanks for your help

This is common with livebearers as they are so crossbread and interbred, unless you get from a true breeder and not from a lfs, you are not getting pure strains. the colour will change with age.

As for the inactive one - how long have you had them? Mollies like brackish water and sometimes the fish shop has kept them in salted water and when they get purchased they get put in a tank without it or visa versa. If a fish is accustomed to being in a certain condition like that, they could get stressed from being in the opposite environment.

Ihave had lots of dally mollies and almost every one has dne this and lived for ages! no need to worry in my opinion, if you go back far enough in here you will see my exct same question last year!!

I made a post on here only a cuple of weeks ago saying the exact same thing just about. my dalmation mollie lost almost all its white bits and is now almost compleatly black. i have 2 and they are both really actve and seem happy enough. :rolleyes:
