ok got another idea for you to reject, still drilling but use a smaller gauge drill bit for less chance of breakages, and then use zip ties to hold it together and snip off the extra bits....hows that?
or another way is by using the natural shapes of the rock, study them closely on all sides and choose pieces that interlock naturally of course if you have a hermit who thinks he is hercules he may still possibly cause a landslide

OK, whats a gauge drill and why is it any different to a normal drill? Also zip ties? is that cable ties? The black things that you cant undo once threaded?

sorry i got too technical by smaller gauge i mean a thinner drill bit and yep zip ties = cable ties

It would be worth using a Tungsten drill bit for a drilling rock, and drill a pilot hole before going for the full diameter required.

Yup too tech for me! speak slowly you will be ok how do I drill it then, do I need someone to hold it. Out of the tank I guess? What about my brittle stars in there, I might drill them

just grip the rocks between your knees and drill em, just kidding just have someone hold them secure and drill slowly, i reckon the stars will feel the vibration and gtfo
