I was looking at a pair of A. Hongsloi from Czech Rep.
But I read somewhere that fish from Czech Rep are infested with parasites, true?

i wouldnt say that they are full of parasites  there are however other countries that produce higher quality fish such as Germany, Thailand etc.

from what ive been told by shops that have import lists from eastern europe they are a cheaper product (fish) but the quality some times isnt as good. i guess it depends on what your after tbh.

inGermany the stendker (spelling) discus demand high prices as they are apparently one of the best available but i have seen many discus labelled as stendker specimins that have lots of peppering so in my eyes not such a great fish on the eye for the high price. ive just bought a flowerhorn that was bred in Thailand and the quality shines through compared to the normal ones purchased in the UK but it was a far higher price to those over here.

i would say at the minute there are a lot of czech bred fish in the shops due to the lower prices from the supplier. the cheaper the fish the higher proffit margin on them for the shops. im sure we all will have some fish that are imported from the czech republic that are very nice and healthy.

if getting them from the czech republic bothers you then try searching for a more specialist seller, there are many around which im sure you can easily discover. i can think of about 6 suppliers straight away that may have the fish you desire.

My old Ellioti came from Czech and he was fine. Well apart from being grumpy and snappy that is

i think thats just eastern europeans for you though.....

just kidding if there are any eastern europeans on here, i love your sense of humour ;)

Well the pair is £30 so I'm hoping they ARE good quality. I think the person they get them from is a specialist Apisto breeder that just happens to live in the Czech Rep. They have A. Hongsloi, A. Macmasteri, A. Cacatuoides and A. Baenschi, all from Czech Rep. so I assume it's from the same dealer. They looked AMAZING so they should be fine. Now just to save the pennies. :hyper:

i was speaking to the guy at abacus aquatics in sidcup once and he gave me a great insight into fish and the quality levels from different countries. he said he didn't touch czech stuff and only rated dutch and german specimens. but i wouldn't say i wouldn't buy a fish depending on its origin but if there was two next to each other and if the german or dutch was only a "bit" more i would stretch my money.
